Coffee. Australia is the best at it, no doubt.
The real question, however, is which state produces the best coffee.
According to Wotif’s annual Uniquely Australian Awards, Canberra is the place to go to get a flat white.
The awards are based on the votes of 10,000 Australians.
Daniel Finch, Wotif’s managing director, told News.com.au that it was a pleasant surprise to learn that there are cities other than Melbourne that can satisfy the caffeine requirements of Australians.
We anticipate that this news will spark some friendly rivalry between states, proving that Melbourne isn’t alone in making a great flat black.
The Cupping Room won the award this year for its “warm ambience, high-quality food, and friendly and fast baristas.”
The Cupping Room team takes their coffee so seriously that they weigh the amount in each cup of coffee “to make sure we give you the best tasting coffee we can.”
Cameron Thomas, manager of news.com.au, said that they mainly weigh the bags in the morning because it can be a little difficult to do so throughout the day due to the large rushes.
He added that they use between 110g and 115g per shot of coffee, saying it is part of the “perfect coffee.”
The perfect cup of coffee is a combination of many different factors.
Cameron is thrilled with the award, as it reflects the hard work of his team in providing its guests with the best and unique coffee experiences.
Canberra is really stepping up its game. In 2015, Sasa Sestic (also known as “The Coffee Man”) won the Australian Barista Championship and the World Barista Championship. So, they are doing something right.
Here are the winners of the Best Flat White Category in each state.
Single O Surry Hills won for NSW, Proud Mary Coffee Collingwood in Victoria, Fonzie Abbot, Albion, for Queensland, Pop Rocket Cafe Katherine for the NT, Haz Beanz Finestkind Coffee Albany for WA, My Kingdom for a Horse Adelaide for SA, and Bury Me Standing Hobart, for Tasmania.
Wotif’s Uniquely Aussie Awards aim to offer a guide to Australia’s most local treasures. Apart from the Best Flat White, there were also five other categories: Best Brewery, Best Hotel Room Service, Best Sanga, Best Botanic Gardens, and Best Hot Springs.
The best part of these awards, and what Wotif is most passionate about, is the fact that they are open to everyone.
Celebrate the local legends and businesses that makeup communities.
News.com.au quoted Mr Finch as saying, “Australian travel is unique and represents what it’s all about.”
We hope that highlighting these businesses will encourage Aussies, especially as we approach the summer months, to explore their backyard.
Felons Brewing Co, a Queensland brewery, won the title of Best Brewery in Australia.
Aussies say that a brewery’s atmosphere is what makes it great, and Brisbane Felons has it. The Wotif team says the venue is passionate about offering more than just quality beer. They also added that it has an “epic Pirate Playground” for kids, set up in easy sight of the outdoor tables.
The award for best hotel room service went to EOS in South Australia “for many reasons,” which included its late-night food menu.
Many nominations also highlighted friendly customer service, which strives to exceed expectations.
The on-call mixologist was what really made EOS by Skycity stand out.
Mention the in-room makeup and hair services available.”
How can we forget “the Best Sanga award? South Dowling Sandwiches won the prize. A hole-in-the-wall cafe located in Sydney.
It is no surprise to me that Australians consider their sangas the best in the nation,” Mr Finch said.
He said that their victory was due to their “generous portion” of “huge slices of fluffy bread which soak up all sauces” as well as their “great price and crowd pleasing caramelised carrots.”
The generous price of $11 was also mentioned, so you won’t feel guilty for treating yourself to a tasty lunch.
Best Hot Springs was awarded to Mataranka Thermal Pool in the Northern Territory.
